Best Answer: Hi there, I've never heard of the game dammit but it sounds like it could be a different name for Old Hell. I don't know but I'll give you the rules for Old Hell just in case.
Cards are shuffled and dealt out. Round 1, one card each; Round 2, two cards each; Round 3, three cards, etc. Keep dealing one card more each time untill all cards are equally distributed; any left over cards are kept out of play that hand.
After dealing, the top card of the remaining pile is turned up as trump for the round. The last hand is played 'no trump'. In case you do not know what Trump is, trump suit is the 'power house' suit for that round. Generally cards rank 2 though Ace, Ace is the highest. With trump, even a 2 of trump will take an Ace of a non trump suit. Repeat the last hand twice and then start working backwards until you end up dealing one card each.
With four players, the game will start from 1 - 12 (with trump),13 (no trump); 13 (no trump), 12 - 1 (with trump). Game Play: Each round is the same - each player predicts how many hands they will win (round one there is only one hand that can win but you could have more than one person saying that they think it will be them). Bids are recorded and play starts left of the dealer. When it comes to the dealer's bid, he/she can not make a bid so that the total number of bids equals the number of cards dealt; someone has to get burned! Highest card of the suit lead wins or the highest trump played. Winning hand leads next round. Play continues till all cards have been played.
A player MUST follow suit if they can; if not they can play anything else (throw off, play trump, etc). Once all hands have been played, the person with the most points wins. Scoring I have seen many variations of. Me family used this method: 3 points if you made what you called (you won the number of hands you said you would) + 1 point for every trick bid.
You bid 2 and make it: 3 + 2 = 5 points. You lose 3 points for not making what you said you would. Bids must be EXACT and that's where the fun comes in.
Once you know that you can no longer possible make the bid you said you would you try to take as many other down with you! My family plays a game called 'Darnit' It's a spades type card game for 5 players. First hand is dealt with each player getting 10 cards. The next card is flipped and that suit becomes the 'trump'. Then the player on the left starts by bidding. Each player bids how many books they can take.
The dealer must make a bid that does not equal to the number of cards dealt. Example: Each player gets 10 cards. The next card is flipped. (3 of Hearts) Hearts is now trump for the round. Bids: P1-2 P2-2 P3-4 P4-0 Dealer is not allowed to bid 2 because that woud equal 10 bids for 10 cards. Dealer is forced to bid 0, 1, 3-up. Score keeper keeps track of who made it and who 'popped'.
You must make your bid. If you go over or under your bid, you popped. Trumps do not have to be broken to be played.

Player 1 can play any cards he/she wants. But Spades rule does apply. Players are allowed to trump in or play off if they don't have cards of that suit. Once the round is done, deal goes over to the left and the new dealer deals out 9 cards and bidding starts over. Just as the first round, the dealer cannot make a bid that equals 9. After each round, the dealer passes to the left and the card count goes down 1.
So the next round would have 8 cards followed by 7 and so on. The winner is chosen after the game by total number of hands made. Then if there is a tie, amount of total books made. For example, at the end of the game scores go: P1 made 7 hands with total of 8 books made through the game.
P2 made 5 hands with 9 books P3 had 8 hands with 4 books P4 had 3 hands with 3 books P5 had 6 hands with 5 books P3 wins with most hands (8). But if everything was the same except P1 made 8 hands and 8 books, P1 wins. (Tied with 8 hands but had 8 books over P3's 4 books.) You could play an extra hand of 1, if you like, if there is a true tie (same amount of hands made and books made) but we usually just call it a draw. I've played games where one player won with most hands made but bid 0 for all the hands and made his 0's each hand. If you have more questions about this version, feel free to contact me.
